To act with confidence means you’ve looked beyond fear and doubt, letting yourself out.

Being yourself is simple, remember that there’s something in you that they don’t have.
When you wear a disguise for too long, you slowly forget about the real person behind the mask, and you’ll end up hiding behind one disguise after another.

Going against the grain…

Do something that is opposite of what is normally done.

Normal: (1) n. The usual, average, or typical state or condition. (2) adj. conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.

My question is… WHO DEFINES THE NORM??? And even better… who will be willing to go against it. In the professional world, there is only so much that is acceptable and only so far one can go being an individual. Smh. It sucks that we have to hide who we are and shy away from the differences that make us all so beautiful!

Luckily, I work in a charter school that supports the individual. We have teachers with visible tattoos and piercings. Daily, you’ll see teachers sporting all kinds of styles from super business to super chilled. Each day is different for me. I dress how I feel. I wear what makes me comfortable. Surprise! Surprise! It in no way reflects our work ethic. I love kids. I work hard to give them what they need. I am in an environment where judgement is minimal and I can spend my time focusing on how to improve my practice and less on projection.

I think I’m in the right place for the type of person I am. I respect and support peoples differences. I just want to encourage people to think outside the box! As a matter of a fact, get rid of the damn box!!!! Being professional doesn’t mean be boring. Phresin up!

I support the urban professional:

Urban Professional: (n) A very well put together young person in the working class who dares to be different. Antonyms: normal Synonyms: young, fly and flashy.
